ECO-eNET at OECC/PSC 2025: Showcasing the Next-Generation Optical Technologies.

The ECO-eNET project made a significant impact at the OECC/PSC 2025 conference in Sapporo, Japan a premier international event for photonics and communications. Through workshops, tutorials, and invited talks, our team unveiled key project advancements, solidifying ECO-eNET’s role in shaping the next-generation optical technologies.

Key Highlights from Our Experts

Professor Dan Kilper, CONNECT Centre Director and ECO-eNET Technical Lead presented at the Workshop on Recent Trends of Research Projects. He introduced the confluent network concept, a cornerstone of ECO-eNET’s vision to seamlessly integrate optical and radio transport into a unified, flexible architecture. This  approach is crucial for addressing the growing convergence of data services and the demand for seamless end-to-end connectivity in future networks.

Professor Marco Ruffini, TCD led a dynamic tutorial on “Optical Spectrum as a Service: Progress and Challenges.” This emerging paradigm allows for dynamic, on-demand allocation of optical spectrum. His presentation showcased selected ECO-eNET results, emphasizing how flexible spectrum management is vital for developing efficient, sustainable, and high-capacity networks that will power future digital services.

Professor Paolo Monti, Chalmers and ECO-eNET coordinator,  delivered an invited talk titled “Harnessing AI and Confluent Technologies for Next-Generation 6G Networks.” This presentation explored the broader ambitions of the ECO-eNET project, exploring how AI-driven network management, combined with the confluent network approach, can create more adaptive, energy-efficient, and resilient infrastructures—essential for enabling 6G and beyond.

These impactful engagements significantly boosted ECO-eNET’s visibility within the global research community, sharing insights that will undeniably shape the networks of the future.
