Athens, Greece – The ECO-eNET project recently convened its partners for a productive and dynamic plenary meeting on May 15-16, 2025, hosted at the OTE ACADEMY in Maroussi, Athens. This significant gathering brought together leading researchers and experts from across Europe, all united by a shared mission: to advance pioneering research into confluent edge networks for 6G. The discussions and collaborations focused on critical aspects such as resilience, sustainability, and developing high-capacity solutions for the next generation of connectivity.
The ECO-eNET project is at the forefront of shaping the future of telecommunications, striving to build a more robust, efficient, and environmentally conscious network infrastructure. This plenary served as a crucial platform for partners to synchronize efforts, review progress, and strategically plan for the upcoming phases of the project.
Key Highlights from the Agenda
The two-day plenary was packed with insightful presentations and collaborative working sessions, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the project’s various work packages.
Day 1 – May 15, 2025
The first day kicked off with a welcome and agenda approval by Paolo Monti from Chalmers University, setting a collaborative tone for the meeting. The morning sessions delved into crucial management and architectural aspects:
- WP6 Management – Reporting and Review: Led by Paolo Monti and Sofia Minero (Chalmers University), this session focused on the administrative and reporting facets of the project, ensuring all activities align with the overall objectives.
- WP1 Service Requirements & Architecture: Ioanna Mesogiti from OTE presented on the foundational service requirements and the overarching architectural framework for the ECO-eNET’s innovative network solutions.
- A significant portion of the morning was dedicated to the M18 Periodic Report Review, a vital checkpoint to assess the project’s progress over the past 18 months.
The afternoon sessions shifted focus to the technical backbone of the project:
- WP3 Confluent Mesh Networking: Carlos Natalino (Chalmers University) provided an in-depth look at the advancements in confluent mesh networking, a core component of the project’s technological innovation.
- WP4 Experimental Realizations & Demonstrations: Aleksandra Kaszubowska and Marco Ruffini from Trinity College Dublin showcased the practical implementation and demonstration aspects, highlighting the tangible progress made in bringing the theoretical concepts to life.
The day concluded with a comprehensive wrap-up session, followed by a well-deserved dinner in the picturesque area of Kifisià, fostering informal networking and collaboration among the partners.
Day 2 – May 16, 2025
The second day continued with equally impactful sessions, focusing on critical development and dissemination strategies:
- WP2 Transmission Systems Development: Michael Wallace from MBR presented on the latest developments in transmission systems, crucial for achieving the high-capacity and efficient connectivity goals of 6G.
- WP5 Public Dissemination & Exploitation: Laura Galaviz Nieto from Trinity College Dublin outlined the strategies for effectively communicating the project’s findings to a wider audience and exploring avenues for exploiting the innovative technologies developed within ECO-eNET.
The plenary concluded with a final wrap-up session, summarizing the key outcomes and defining the next steps for the project’s continued success.
