Dr Devika Dass, a Research Fellow with the CONNECT Centre at Trinity College Dublin and a key contributor to the ECO-eNET project, will present one of the top-scoring papers at this year’s Optical Fibre Communication Conference (OFC 2025)—the premier global event for optical networking and communications.
Her talk, titled “Coexistence of Digital Coherent, MmWave and sub-THz Analogue RoF Services Using OSaaS Over Converged Access-Metro Live Production Network”, demonstrates a significant step forward in hybrid optical–wireless integration. The research showcases, for the first time, the end-to-end transmission of digital coherent and analogue radio-over-fibre signals—at mmWave and sub-THz frequencies—across a live metro production network.
Using Optical Spectrum-as-a-Service (OSaaS) technology, the team successfully delivered seamless coexistence of multiple signal types over HEAnet’s production metro fibre infrastructure, transparently connected to a passive optical network. This innovation addresses key goals of the ECO-eNET project, which aims to develop converged, sustainable, and scalable edge network technologies for future 6G systems.
Dr Dass’s co-authors include collaborators from Dublin City University, HEAnet, and ECO-eNET Principal Investigators Professor Marco Ruffini and Professor Daniel Kilper.
